On April 5, 2025, the Counter-Strike community was shaken by major news: the entire main roster of the Turkish organization Eternal Fire, one of the brightest teams in CS2 at the moment, transferred to the Serbian organization Aurora. This transfer marked the end of an era and simultaneously the beginning of a new one. To understand the scale of what happened, let’s examine the reasons for the departure, the team’s history, the community’s reaction, and what lies ahead for them.

Eternal Fire: Symbol of Turkish CS

Eternal Fire: Symbol of Turkish CS

Eternal Fire was founded on August 13, 2021, by Turkish legends XANTARES and woxic. After various successful performances in mixed teams, these Turkish CS diamonds decided to start a project with an ambitious goal: to put Turkey on the map of the global Counter-Strike scene. The team developed by attracting various legends of the Turkish scene from the Space Soldiers era, while simultaneously building an academy and nurturing young stars like Wicadia, jottAAA, xfl0ud, and others.

Eternal Fire Fans: Enormous Support

Eternal Fire Fans: Enormous Support

Eternal Fire is not just a team – it’s a symbol of national pride for Turkish fans, whose passion for esports knows no boundaries. Their support was especially evident at major tournaments, where thousands of fans gathered for viewing parties across Turkey. At one of the most memorable events in March 2024 at the Grand Pera shopping center in Istanbul, more than 2,000 fans filled the hall to watch a match against Vitality. People in team jerseys, with flags and banners, chanted slogans and erupted in applause after every successful play.

viewing parties

Such viewing parties became a tradition. In cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, fans rented cinemas, shopping centers, and even open venues to cheer for their heroes together. At ESL Pro League Season 20 in September 2024 in Ankara, around 1,500 people gathered, and the broadcast of the final against NAVI attracted a record 50,000 online viewers for Turkish CS, despite the Twitch block. Eternal Fire CEO Furkan Guven noted in an interview with HLTV in March 2024: “Our viewing parties grow with each tournament. We want to show the world the power of esports and our fan base.”

Government Issues: Financial Difficulties

However, the successes on the server and in building a community were overshadowed by serious problems outside the game. In Turkey, esports, especially CS2, faced strict limitations. Legislation prohibits sponsorship from betting companies and various roulette sites, which sharply reduces team revenues. Authorities repeatedly threatened to block Steam due to advertisements for such platforms, adding uncertainty to the lives of players and organizations. Cultural peculiarities also played a role. In Turkey, many companies avoid associations with CS2 because of the word "Terrorists" in the game, considering it a reputational risk. The situation worsened in 2024 when Turkey blocked Twitch and Discord due to disputes about content regulation. These platforms were critically important for streamers, players, and fans, providing communication and broadcasts. In October 2024, the organization made the forced decision to relocate to Hungary, but even this didn't solve all the financial problems, pushing the team toward a radical step – the transfer to Aurora.

In October 2024, the organization made the forced decision to relocate to Hungary, but even this didn’t solve all the financial problems, pushing the team toward a radical step – the transfer to Aurora.

Aurora: A Bold Step Out of the Shadows

Aurora, a Serbian esports organization founded in 2022, had long remained on the periphery of the top CS2 scene. Their previous rosters showed decent results, but none could break into the elite. Most of the noise around the tag comes from the organization’s owner, Valery “L3rich” Kharitonov, known for his ambitious statements and who repeatedly expressed a desire to acquire a world-class team.

On April 5, 2025, the dream became reality: Aurora benched their Russian-speaking roster and signed Eternal Fire in its entirety. The rapidity of the announcement just hours after benching the previous roster suggests that negotiations had been ongoing for months and were very thorough. One of the popular Russian streamers, Shadowkekw, revealed on his stream that he had known about this deal for a long time and was supposed to announce it on his Twitch channel.

StRoGo

There’s no reason to doubt this because Aurora had just started a media story with another Russian-speaking streamer, StRoGo, a couple of months ago, inviting him to play for their team. At that time, it seemed risky and questionable, but now it’s becoming obvious that the former roster already knew about the upcoming changes.

Why Aurora?

The decision to sign the entire Eternal Fire roster is not just a strengthening move but an immediate transition to the elite. The organization immediately found itself in the top 5 of the world rankings and guaranteed slots at all tier-1 events in the near future, including the Major.

Also, Aurora will finally get their stickers, which not only fulfills the owner’s dream but allows them to recoup a lion’s share of their investment in the roster. According to some information, the deal amounted to between 2 and 2.5 million dollars, while the Turkish players definitely received improved financial conditions.

The "Kebab Incident" of 2023

The "Kebab Incident" of 2023

Interestingly, the organizations had an unpleasant history of interaction in 2023 at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023: European RMR B. During a match, viewers noticed that Aurora’s tactical sheets depicted a kebab with the inscription “Turkish Food.” This moment was broadcast and caused a mixed reaction. Some Turkish fans and players, including woxic, considered it disrespectful and provocative, especially given the national pride associated with Eternal Fire. Others called it a harmless joke, comparing it to depicting pizza for Italians or sausages for Danes.

Aurora, facing a wave of criticism, issued an official apology, reporting that they had fined the “guilty employee” and transferred the fine amount to Turkish Philanthropy Funds to help those affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey. The fine amount was not disclosed, but many considered it more of a PR move than sincere regret. This incident added tension to relations with Turkish fans, making the transfer of Eternal Fire to Aurora an even more ironic twist of fate.

Community Reaction: Patriotism vs. Reality

Turkish fans, for whom Eternal Fire was a symbol of national pride, took the news painfully. On social network X, their reactions ranged from anger – “They betrayed Turkey for money” – to sadness – “Eternal Fire was our soul, and now it’s just business.” Some even called for a boycott of the new roster under the Aurora tag. However, some fans acknowledged that Turkey’s financial realities left the team with no choice and expressed support for the players in their pursuit of stability.

The global CS2 community reacted with interest and surprise. Analysts compared the deal to high-profile transfers in traditional sports, noting that a complete transfer of a top team is rare not only in esports.

What's Next?

What's Next?

For the roster, this will be a serious test: new structure, new leadership, new responsibilities. But this time, perhaps they have everything needed not just to compete but to start winning trophies. Their first attempt will be this week at PGL Bucharest, but they decided to skip IEM Melbourne 2025 to give themselves a break. In 2025, the team hasn’t missed a single event and has repeatedly mentioned accumulated fatigue. Perhaps this is also part of a new approach from the new organization, which is more accommodating and doesn’t intend to make players appear at every event.

The story has turned out to be very interesting, and it will be extremely fascinating to follow. In any case, the transfer will be a turning point in the players’ careers, where the outcome could be absolutely anything. It’s worth remembering that MAJ3R is already 34 years old, and XANTARES and woxic are not young either, so it’s not excluded that this is simultaneously a pragmatic transition from a financial perspective and an adventurous one from a career standpoint, hoping to lift the coveted trophy for the Turkish public.

As stated in their farewell post: “This is not the end — this is a new flame.”

This Friday, March 28, the BLAST Open Lisbon 2025 playoffs will take place at the MEO Arena in Lisbon. Six teams – Vitality, Eternal Fire, NAVI, Spirit, MOUZ, and G2 – are ready to battle for the title and a share of the $400,000 prize pool, with $150,000 going to the champion. The group stage in Copenhagen delivered surprises, intense overtimes, and even some drama. Now, it’s time for the decisive clashes. Let’s analyze each team’s form, their past encounters, and who is most likely to lift the trophy on Sunday evening.

Teams Under the Microscope

Vitality: The French Machine with a Human Touch

Vitality: The French Machine with a Human Touch

Group Stage Performance: Vitality advanced from Group A with victories over Astralis, Virtus.pro, and MOUZ. It seemed like smooth sailing, but their rematch with MOUZ, a repeat of the ESL Pro League S21 grand final, was closer than expected, with both maps ending 13-11. Despite MOUZ putting up a fight, it always felt like Vitality had control.

Form: Vitality is currently a tank rolling through the battlefield, unfazed by minor obstacles. ZywOo continues to dominate, but what makes them truly terrifying is their team synergy. flameZ plays like he’s already won five Majors, while ropz quietly fulfills his role to perfection. apEX, with his emotional and flamboyant leadership, not only controls the game but also boosts the team’s morale. Even on an off day, they find ways to win, and right now, it’s unclear who can stop them.

Chance of Victory – 51.55%: Vitality is the clear favorite. They have a tough semifinal against either Spirit or NAVI, but given their current form, they’re unlikely to be too worried.

Eternal Fire: The Turkish Gladiators on the March

Eternal Fire: The Turkish Gladiators on the March

Group Stage Performance: Group B became their proving ground, where they shocked everyone by securing their first-ever victory over NAVI. Before that, they had already swept Liquid and G2 without dropping a map.

Form: Eternal Fire is a volcano that has finally erupted after a long period of simmering. XANTARES is back to his destructive best, and woxic maintains his high level of individual play from previous events. MAJ3R has successfully integrated the young firepower into an aggressive playstyle that crushes opponents. Their confidence after beating NAVI could be the fuel for further success. Starting directly in the semifinals is a bonus, as playing on a big stage has sometimes negatively impacted their performance in the past.

Chance of Victory – 22.22%: They’re just one step away from the final, making their victory more realistic. If XANTARES and woxic get into the zone, Lisbon could become their city.

Spirit: donk and His Crew

Spirit: donk and His Crew

Group Stage Performance: Spirit defeated Mongolian newcomers The Huns in Group A before dropping to the lower bracket after losing 1-2 to MOUZ. To secure a playoff spot, they had to overcome FaZe and Virtus.pro, which they did with relative ease. Against VP, donk ended with a staggering 1.78 rating – a great sign for Spirit fans.

Form: After a lackluster IEM Katowice, Spirit is gradually regaining form, and most importantly, donk has turned his aimbot mode back on. They look like a team where everyone knows their role, but some players can still disappear from games, putting extra pressure on donk. Their loss to MOUZ was a prime example, though some might call it a fluke.

Chance of Victory – 25.00%: Spirit’s playoff bracket is brutal – they have to go through NAVI and Vitality just to reach the final, and then endure a BO5 grand final. But if donk delivers his peak performance, their chances will significantly increase.

Natus Vincere: Shadows of Former Glory

Natus Vincere: Shadows of Former Glory

Group Stage Performance: NAVI started strong in Group B with a 2-0 win over FURIA, followed by a fortunate path through The MongolZ to secure a playoff spot. However, their crushing defeat against Eternal Fire exposed their current struggles – they’re merely a shadow of their mid-2024 form.

Form: NAVI resembles an aging champion trying to reclaim their title, but their once-devastating punches are now predictable. After a stellar 2024, they are clearly struggling in 2025: b1t and jL are out of form, w0nderful is inconsistent, and Aleksib seems lost, unable to implement B1ad3’s ideas. jL’s refusal to shake XANTARES’ hand after an in-game incident also hints at emotional instability within the squad. True champions don’t dwell on such trivial matters.

Chance of Victory – 7.14%: Their quarterfinal against Spirit is their last chance to prove they belong at the top. If they don’t find their spark, Lisbon could mark a turning point in a negative way.

MOUZ: The Young Guns in the Playoffs Again

MOUZ: The Young Guns in the Playoffs Again

Group Stage Performance: MOUZ had a tough Group A run, battling past Falcons and Spirit, with the latter match going to four overtimes on Ancient. While they lost a close rematch against Vitality (11-13, 11-13), they secured a playoff spot.

Form: The winter roster changes shook up the team, but siuhy’s departure no longer seems catastrophic. Brollan has struggled individually, but the experienced Spinx compensates with firepower and assists the young captain with mid-round calls. Spinx might even be an upgrade, providing leadership and firepower. Their hallmark teamwork and well-drilled defaults remain a testament to their coach’s work.

Chance of Victory – 9.52%: Their quarterfinal against G2 is about 60-40 in their favor, but if they advance, facing Eternal Fire will be a massive challenge. Even if they reach the final, they would be up against one of three powerhouse teams. They aren’t the favorites, but they have the potential to surprise.

G2 Esports: Chaos in the Hands of Talent

G2 Esports: Chaos in the Hands of Talent

Group Stage Performance: G2 battled through Group B, defeating Imperial, falling to EF, then making it to the playoffs via wins over M80 and The MongolZ.

Form: Since NiKo’s departure to Falcons, G2 has been searching for stability. The biggest responsibility falls on Snax as IGL, tasked with harnessing the immense talent in his squad alongside TaZ. Currently, every player is trying to help the captain, making their playstyle feel like controlled chaos.

Chance of Victory – 5.26%: Unfortunately for G2, they face teams with strong tactical foundations. Both MOUZ and EF thrive on countering disorder. However, with m0NESY, malbsMd, and huNter – each capable of dropping 30+ kills per map – G2 can never be fully counted out.

Playoff Results:

Quarterfinals:

  • Team Spirit 2:0 NAVI
  • MOUZ 2:1 G2

Semifinals:

  • Vitality 2:1 Team Spirit
  • Eternal Fire 2:1 MOUZ

Grand Final:

  • Vitality 3:0 Eternal Fire

Conclusion: Vitality – Kings of Lisbon

At this moment, Vitality isn’t just playing to win tournaments – they are building a legacy. In their current form, they seem unstoppable, determined to etch their names into Counter-Strike history.

Imagine a country where endless steppes stretch to the horizon, while internet cafes in cities buzz with the sound of keyboards. This is Mongolia – a place rarely associated with esports. Yet, from here emerged The MongolZ, a team that currently holds 3rd place in the VALVE rankings and 6th place on HLTV.org. Their story is more than just a record of victories; it is a saga of dreams, friendship, and perseverance, backed by the support of an entire nation. Let’s dive into how these players from Ulaanbaatar and Darkhan became the “Generation of Miracles” and why their journey inspires thousands.

The Beginning: From Failures to First Triumphs

The Beginning: From Failures to First Triumphs

It all started in 2013 when a group of young Mongolian gamers tried their hand at Dota 2 under the tag The MongolZ. However, two years later, they made a bold switch to CS:GO. Their debut on the big stage in 2015 was disastrous – they lost all their matches, and it seemed like the project was doomed. But the team didn’t give up. In 2016, they shocked everyone by winning gold at IEM Taipei, earning $30,000 and making the world take notice of Mongolia in esports.

The real breakthrough came later, in 2022-2023. At that time, Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren, Sodbayar “Techno4K” Munkhbold, and coach Erdenedalay “maaRaa” Bayanbat played for IHC Esports. They made it to the BLAST.tv Paris Major, proving they could compete with the best. But in mid-2023, they decided to return to their roots, revive The MongolZ, and form a new roster. They were joined by Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch, Ayush “mzinho” Batbold, and Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold. In the summer of 2024, the organization introduced the young players and called this roster the “Generation of Miracles” – and soon the world would see why.

Who They Are: Stories of the Heroes

bLitz – The Chess Genius with a Mouse

bLitz – The Chess Genius with a Mouse

Garidmagnai was born in 2002 in bustling Ulaanbaatar. From the age of eight, he was obsessed with chess, a serious young boy defeating everyone in school tournaments and dreaming of big victories. This passion for strategy never left him. At 12, he entered a local internet cafe, where old computers hummed, and discovered CS. By 18, he was leading IHC Esports, and now, as captain of The MongolZ, he is the team’s mastermind. Interestingly, chess still holds a place in his heart, and he sometimes relaxes by playing Auto Chess in Dota 2.

Techno4K – The "Mom of the Team"

Techno4K – The "Mom of the Team"

Born in 2003, Sodbayar also grew up in Ulaanbaatar. As a child, he was a restless troublemaker until chess duels with bLitz taught him to channel his energy productively. At 14, he participated in a local LAN tournament, where his aggressive playstyle immediately stood out. Fun fact: Techno is a huge fan of the K-pop group NewJeans and listens to their music before matches. He also has an unusual nickname – “Mom of the Team.” It started in 2023 when, after an exhausting bootcamp, he lifted his teammates’ spirits by cooking “tsuivan,” a traditional Mongolian noodle dish. The smell of food, the laughter, and the gratitude made the moment special. Since then, before every bootcamp, he’s in the kitchen. “If Techno is cooking, we will win,” bLitz jokes.

910 – The Sniper from the Countryside

910 – The Sniper from the Countryside

Usukhbayar, born in 2004, comes from Darkhan, a quiet city 200 kilometers from the capital. There were no internet cafes or gaming scene, but that didn’t stop him. He traveled to Ulaanbaatar for tournaments, spending hours on the road chasing his dream. Initially, he wanted to be a Dota 2 star, but at 16, he switched to CS when he couldn’t find teammates. When he joined The MongolZ in 2023, he had only 3,500 hours in CS:GO – an incredibly low number for a pro player. Now he has just over 6,000, yet he wins duels against legends like ZywOo and m0NESY. He also loves football and dreams of organizing a match between esports players and Mongolian footballers. “CS is like football, but with a mouse. We run around, but on maps, and pass the ball – with grenades,” he says.

mzinho – The Young Prodigy

mzinho – The Young Prodigy

Born in 2008 in Ulaanbaatar, Ayush grew up in a family where gaming was a way of life. His older brother introduced him to CS when he was just 13. He adapted quickly, and by 15, he was already playing at a professional level, becoming the youngest on the team. As a rifler and support player, he often anchors positions, makes smart rotations, and covers his teammates’ backs with remarkable composure for a 17-year-old. His youth and talent have made him a true prodigy, widely regarded as the future of Mongolian CS.

Senzu – The Triple No-Scope Magician

Senzu – The Triple No-Scope Magician

Born in 2006, Azbayar is also from Ulaanbaatar. At 15, he attended his first local LAN tournament, captivated by the crowd’s energy and the thrill of competition. During ESL Pro League S21, in a dramatic comeback from 2:11 against G2 on Mirage, he landed three insane no-scope AWP kills, securing victory for his team. This highlight became a viral moment in the CS community, with fans calling on VALVE to commemorate it with an in-game graffiti. Another fun fact – his name is mentioned in a song by Mongolian rapper Rokit Bay titled “Blaavgai.”

maaRaa – The Man Who Holds the Team Together

maaRaa – The Man Who Holds the Team Together

Erdenedalay was born in the 90s in Ulaanbaatar. He once dreamed of competing on the big stage himself, but a hand injury ended his playing career. Instead of leaving esports, he became a coach. Since 2015, he has been with The MongolZ, and over nine years, he has become not just a mentor but the team’s backbone. His game analysis is meticulous, breaking down every opponent’s move like a chess master. His tactical pauses often help the team turn the tide of a match. “He never gives up,” say his players.

Their Biggest Triumphs

  • YaLLa Compass 2024: The first Asian team in 14 years to win an S-tier tournament. They defeated Astralis 2:1 in the semifinals and crushed Heroic 2:0 in the final, earning $200,000 and a historic title.
  • Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: Dominated the group stage, emerging as potential finalists. However, they struggled on stage and finished 5th-8th.
  • IEM Katowice 2025: The first Asian team to reach the playoffs of the legendary Spodek Arena. After beating Eternal Fire in the quarterfinals, they fell to Vitality in the semis.
  • ESL Pro League S21: Shocked the world by eliminating NAVI 2:0 in March 2025. Once again, Vitality denied them a grand final appearance.

Government Support: A National Esports Team

Government Support: A National Esports Team

In March 2025, a unique event took place – The MongolZ were officially recognized as Mongolia’s national esports team. This was not just symbolic; the government provided them with salaries, diplomatic passports for easier travel, full funding for international competitions, and even a state-sponsored training center in Ulaanbaatar. Imagine: just a few years ago, these players were gaming in old internet cafes, and now they receive the same support as Olympic athletes.

The MongolZ graffiti

The authorities commissioned graffiti featuring the team in the heart of the capital, and schoolchildren are now asking if CS lessons can replace physical education. Even the Minister of Sports stated: “The MongolZ are our ambassadors, showing that Mongolia can be strong not only in wrestling but also in esports.” For the team, this is a huge responsibility—they are playing not just for themselves but for the entire country.

Their Legacy in Mongolia and Beyond

Their Legacy in Mongolia and Beyond

The MongolZ represent more than just victories; they are a source of inspiration. Their success has ignited an esports boom in Mongolia. New teams are emerging in the country, many of which are now topping the Asian rankings.

For example, The Huns are already competing at BLAST Lisbon 2025, while ATOX and Chinggis Warriors are reaching the final stages of various qualifiers. In Ulaanbaatar, they are called “the new warriors of the steppe,” and it’s no joke – they have become a symbol of change.

Only 4 days remain until the end of the two-week CS marathon, and today the first two quarterfinals will take place. Before discussing the playoffs, I’d like to say a few words about the modified format, which, although shortened by almost a week with fewer participants, still turned out to be quite drawn out. If even viewers are feeling the general fatigue, how must the teams feel when they have almost no breaks between tournaments? This problem especially affects teams still striving to reach tier-1 status, who have to play all tournaments to maintain their ranking and receive invitations. The top teams allowed themselves to skip PGL Cluj-Napoka and, moreover, participated in EPL starting from the second stage – as a result, 7 out of 8 invited teams advanced to the playoffs. Let’s analyze the quarterfinal matches and determine which participants are closest to the coveted trophy.

Eternal Fire vs Team Spirit: The Turks Urgently Need Rest

Eternal Fire vs Team Spirit: The Turks Urgently Need Rest

The Turkish roster began 2025 with an excellent replacement of Calyx with jottAAA, which immediately yielded results, and the Turks became regular participants in playoff stages. However, by mid-March, due to the dense tournament schedule, Eternal Fire transformed from a bold, powerful team into an old, barely moving cart. Certainly, this cart has traveled many miles and is still running, but the speed is not the same, and some parts require maintenance. The Turks squeaked through the Play-In stage, experienced even more difficulties in the second stage, and throughout this time, they didn’t have enough time to rest, reset, try to develop something new, or at least fix existing gaps.

And against such a team, Team Spirit will play, where donk will run and look for opponents all over the map. The Dragons are the clear favorites in this match, and it’s even difficult to imagine under what circumstances the match would go to a third map. The Turks will again rely on their Anubis or try to risk picking Train, where the donk factor will play a lesser role due to the map’s specifics. But there’s no doubt that the reigning Major champions will be ready for all the traps that XANTARES and company will try to set in this BO3. Of course, there’s always a chance for a miracle, but here we’ll give no more than a 20% chance for such a sensation.

80 to 20 in favor of Team Spirit.

G2 vs MOUZ: Everything Is in m0NESY's Hands

G2 vs MOUZ: Everything Is in m0NESY's Hands

This is the second major LAN without Nikola Kovač for the Samurai, and from their play at ESL Pro League S21, it’s clear that the team has not yet recovered from losing such a high-class player. According to various interviews, absolutely everyone is trying to take on the role of second caller, and there are even rumors that m0NESY might become a full-fledged IGL. The G2 sniper sits in the middle and communicates much more actively with the team, which is most likely seen as a necessary measure and Ilya’s own initiative, who doesn’t want to remain silent when he understands that something is going wrong. Fortunately, such active communication doesn’t affect his individual gameplay, but it’s clear that the team desperately needs good calls. For the attack, where they can improvise more and rely on pure skill, the Samurai are doing quite well, but in defense, where more coordinated actions are required – it’s close to a disaster.

Obviously, these problems won’t disappear in two days, and they will face the quite cohesive MOUZ, who are on an emotional high after winning the previous tournament. The solid slap from Vitality made them realize that not everything is rosy and they should continue working, which they showed in the very next match. Nevertheless, this team is quite young and heavily dependent on a good start. Also, the Samurai will have a clear advantage in the sniper position, and if malbsMd activates in this match, the Mice could experience serious problems. The individual potential of G2 players is too high, so they should never be written off.

In this match, we see a slight advantage for G2, 60 to 40.

NAVI vs The MongolZ: Time for the Mongols to Prove Themselves

NAVI vs The MongolZ: Time for the Mongols to Prove Themselves

The MongolZ have long moved up to the premier league, but they still haven’t managed to shed the dark horse label. Playing on stage is still a stressful circumstance that prevents them from playing their liberated and confident CS. At ESL Pro League, there will be no spectators, and the playoffs will be held in the same studio format as the group stage. This factor is definitely playing in favor of The MongolZ, who managed to come back from a 2:11 score against G2, which would hardly have been possible in an arena with spectators. Yes, they were quite toothless against Team Spirit, but NAVI is not in their optimal form right now either.

Moving on to Blad3’s protégés, the head coach clearly must have heard several warning bells during his team’s play. The defeat to SAW, the map given to TYLOO, overtimes against paiN – all this looked extremely depressing. The victory over G2 might have led the team to false thoughts that everything is fine, and there’s a possibility that NAVI will play carelessly against the Mongols. The MongolZ love when they’re underestimated, so Aleksib will need to focus seriously and not be toxic in teamspeak.

This match seems even more balanced than the previous one, and even the map pool doesn’t help identify a specific winner. Here we’ll take another risk and put The MongolZ slightly above NAVI in the hope of seeing at least one sensation in the playoffs. 55 to 45 in favor of The MongolZ.

Vitality vs Liquid: Without Unnecessary Words

Vitality vs Liquid: Without Unnecessary Words

The victory at IEM Katowice is Vitality’s main trump card in this tournament. The team was made to feel that all the changes were correct and that they are in perfect order. These guys exude a gorgeous vibe, where apEX is experiencing his third youth and can take the highlight tab in a match against MOUZ. Liquid’s captain will try to engage in trash talk with apEX, will try to encourage his teammates, but whether they can catch his will to win is an open question. NAF and jks sit with stone faces throughout all matches, and ultimate and NertZ can only bite back on the server. Such players are an easy appetizer before the next stages for the hungry Vitality, who want not only to take another trophy but also to get closer to the Intel Grand Slam and help ZywOo surpass s1mple in the number of MVPs.

Vitality’s victory – 95%

Semifinals and Grand Final

Semifinals and Grand Final

It seems few have doubts that we are waiting for a repeat of the grand final in Katowice, and no one has been able to show a level of play close to the two best teams in the world at the moment. Any other outcome would be a genuine surprise, which is why we allowed ourselves to give somewhat risky predictions for two quarterfinals, as the result will be the same anyway – Vitality and Team Spirit go further.

Will Team Spirit be able to take revenge? It seems not; Vitality looks too good and even better than they did a month and a half ago. The Dragons say in all interviews that they are ready and promise to give a fight, but at the moment, there are no objective prerequisites for a successful revenge. They can take one map, impose a more serious fight on the given ones, but they don’t look like the winners of the event in the Swedish capital.

Chances of Teams Winning the Event

  • Vitality – 41.48%
  • Team Spirit – 32.25%
  • NAVI – 15.81%
  • G2 – 15.38%
  • The MongolZ – 11.11%
  • MOUZ – 5.00%
  • Eternal Fire – 4.76%
  • Liquid – 3.45%

What Do Neural Networks Think?

We decided to diversify our predictions and asked the neural network from the social network Grok what it thinks about the results of ESL Pro League S21. Here are its thoughts:

1st place:

  • Team Vitality – stability, roster depth, top form.

2nd place:

  • Team Spirit – worthy finalists, but slightly weaker in Bo5.

3rd-4th place:

  • MOUZ – strong EPL team, but lacks firepower against Vitality.
  • Natus Vincere – strong but less stable, lost to Spirit.

5th-8th place:

  • Team Liquid – too weak against Vitality.
  • Eternal Fire – couldn’t handle Spirit.
  • The MongolZ – hit a wall against NAVI.
  • G2 Esports – m0NESY carries, but team play is lacking.

Counter-Strike has spawned many cult maps throughout its history, but not all of them managed to remain in the active map pool until today. Cache is one of the beloved locations that often fell out of not only the competitive but also the official map pool. Now, a year and a half after the CS2 release, the map has received a new life and was added to the Steam Workshop. Let’s understand what makes it so famous, what bright moments have occurred on it, why it was removed, and why we shouldn’t get too excited about its appearance too soon.

Creation History of Cache and Connection to Chernobyl

Creation History of Cache and Connection to Chernobyl

The Cache map was created by American level designer Michael “FMPONE” Vasilek in collaboration with Salem “Sal” Garcia. It first appeared in Counter-Strike: Source but gained popularity in 2013 when its updated version was released in CS:GO and added to the map pool of esports tournaments. On November 13, 2017, the map was officially included in the active tournament map pool.

One of the key features of the map was its atmosphere. The action takes place in an industrial area in Eastern Europe, strongly reminiscent of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Russian-language inscriptions, abandoned hangars, traces of radiation, and Soviet architecture all give the map a unique atmosphere. Fans even found similarities between Cache and the real Pripyat, such as the landscape with a Ferris wheel outside the game zone. The atmosphere of desolation is emphasized by rusty containers, peeling walls, and overgrown vegetation, which enhances the feeling of an abandoned facility.

Cache CS:GO

In the updated version, everything became even more realistic, thanks not only to the author but also to the new Source 2 engine. However, the author made several changes that immediately caught the eye of many players.

Return of Cache to CS2 and Visual Changes

Return of Cache to CS2 and Visual Changes

The map creator added an updated version of Cache for CS2 to the Steam Workshop and announced this on his X page. Improved lighting, reworked textures, and minor design changes made the map even more detailed and atmospheric. Visually, it remained true to its theme – an abandoned Soviet industrial facility with brick buildings, rusty containers, and peeling walls. Stained glass windows, old furniture, and an abundance of vegetation emphasize the desolation and create that recognizable atmosphere.

However, the updated Cache has its drawbacks. Lighting and improved textures can affect player visibility and performance. Some users report FPS drops of up to two times in certain areas of the map. Therefore, FMPONE continues to optimize the map, eliminating bugs and improving stability.

Cache CS2 MID

From the gameplay changes, the absence of a lamp on the B-plant immediately stood out, where the defense often took the terrorists’ approach to the point. Also, on the mid, the ability to climb into the window, which provided additional overview for the special forces, disappeared. Instead, a small gap remains, which allows safely throwing the necessary grenades. Perhaps the designer wanted to level the sides, as previously the defense was strongly prevalent on this map.

Legendary Moments. Why is s1mple's Famous Graffiti No Longer There?

Legendary Moments. Why is s1mple's Famous Graffiti No Longer There?

Cache has repeatedly been the arena for incredible clutches and highlights. One of the most iconic moments occurred at the ESL One Cologne 2016 tournament in the quarter-final match between Fnatic and Team Liquid.

Alexander “s1mple” Kostylev single-handedly won the round by making an incredible double-kill with an AWP in mid-air, without aim (no-scope). This moment became so iconic that VALVE immortalized it with graffiti on the map, drawing a CT with wings and an AWP in hand.

However, in the CS2 version of Cache, this graffiti is no longer there. The disappearance of the cult drawing was an unpleasant surprise for fans, as it was part of CS history and a tribute to one of the most memorable moments of the esports scene. Perhaps Valve will return it in the future. FMPONE explained the absence of the graffiti with a desire to start from a clean slate and, despite community requests, is not going to bring it back.

Why Was Cache Removed from the Map Pool and Is There a Chance of Return?

Why Was Cache Removed from the Map Pool and Is There a Chance of Return?

Despite its popularity, Cache was removed from the competitive map pool in 2019. It was replaced by the reworked Vertigo, which caused an outcry among fans. The reason for removal was that the map required graphic and balance updates, as it had morally become outdated compared to new maps. Subsequently, it received an updated version but never returned to the main CS:GO map pool.

After the news of Cache’s appearance in the workshop, the community began to speculate which map might be replaced by this Chernobyl location. However, in our opinion, they are simply wasting time, as the reasons for the map’s absence since 2019 have not changed. The main takeaway is that VALVE wants to have complete control over the product and does not want to interact with authors as they did before. The developers want to obtain all rights to use the map, arguing this with the “ability to promptly eliminate various bugs and make necessary changes”. Even three years ago on Twitter (now X), the creator of Cache actively expressed dissatisfaction with this fact, but as we can see, VALVE’s course has not changed. The CEO of Complexity also did not remain on the sidelines and reminded the community of this nuance on his social networks and asked VALVE to openly give an answer to not play on users’ feelings.

Anubis and Tuscan Check

The only thing we can count on is that VALVE will buy the map from FMPONE, and he will agree to give all rights to the developers. This was the case with maps like Anubis and Tuscan, and as a result of the deal, the authors received $150,000. Would such a sum satisfy the creator of Cache? The question is debatable. An even more controversial question is whether VALVE will want to buy the map from an author who has regularly expressed negativity towards the company.

The Coolest Skins from the Cache Collection

The Coolest Skins from the Cache Collection
  • Galil AR | Cerberus — $22.31-$114.70. Souvenir — $44.62-$1135.41
  • MAC-10 | Nuclear Garden — $8.36-$14.45. Souvenir — $11.15-$43.66
  • FAMAS | Styx — $5.07-$23.00. Souvenir — $38.00-$141.31
  • Glock-18 | Reactor — $7.89-$18.07. Souvenir — $12.81-$15.75
  • Tec-9 | Toxic — $10.60-$13.80. Souvenir — $11.40-$78.78

Since we started talking about the Cache map, it’s time to remember the items from this collection. Like on most removed maps – souvenir versions cost more than classic ones, but during the map’s time in the game, enough of them have dropped, and these prices are likely not going to change for a long time. It will not be possible to get a solid profit from crafting, which means the skins will not disappear from the trading platform and will at most be lost in the inventories of abandoned accounts.

The main theme of the design of this collection was the image of skulls with applied radiation hazard signs, which strongly resonates with the Nuke collection. The only unique art can be considered Galil AR | Cerberus, depicting three heads of Cerberus with burning eyes and bared teeth.

Conclusion

Cache is not just a map, but a real legend of Counter-Strike. Its rich history, connection to the tragic Chernobyl story, iconic moments, and community love make it unique. Returning to CS2 will allow us to play a few nostalgic matches in a private lobby, but dreams of seeing it in top tournaments are still far from reality. At the moment, the most realistic scenario is to see the map in various show matches from tournament operators.

The group stage wasn’t without surprises, but most teams made it to the top 8 and quarter-finals quite logically. Virtus.pro was the biggest disappointment, showing rather straightforward CS, and after their small triumph at IEM Katowice 2025, expectations for this team were significantly higher. Let’s remind that from 2025, PGL decided to hold third-place matches, which will become the main feature of the event in Cluj-Napoca and future tournaments from this tournament operator. In this article, we’ll primarily focus on the quarter-finals, but we’ll also try to predict the final standings of teams at the Romanian event.

paiN vs MOUZ: Is Everything So Clear-cut?

paiN vs MOUZ: Is Everything So Clear-cut?

Based on tags and player roster, MOUZ are considered favorites in the first quarter-final, but judging by the results at the tournament itself, one wants to give priority to the Brazilians. The only obstacle might be the team’s inexperience in arena matches, but not so long ago, MOUZ themselves suffered from this factor. paiN had perhaps the most difficult path in the Swiss system, as they played against Astralis, Falcons, The MongolZ, and Virtus.pro, where only the Russian team didn’t make it to playoffs. The guys still make many mistakes, but thanks to their character and hot South American temperament, they close many situations in their favor. The team has no obvious anchor, where everyone can deliver a solid performance and help the team when needed.

MOUZ started with confident 2:0s, but as soon as they began facing more serious opponents like FaZe, Falcons, and VP, everything started looking less rosy. Spinx is currently the main protagonist, which is expressed not only in statistics but also in the general feel of the Mice’s game. When the game relies on one player, it’s always dangerous, especially when you’re facing a united collective, which paiN definitely is.

The map pool for both teams is rather narrow but almost identical, so the main headache will start at the map veto stage. Most likely, neither team will risk and prefer to determine the winner on comfortable maps for both teams: Dust2, Inferno, Mirage, and Nuke.

For us, this matchup looks like 60-40 in favor of paiN.

The MongolZ vs Astralis: No Need to Look for Intrigue

The MongolZ vs Astralis: No Need to Look for Intrigue

The power and terror of the Astralis tag still makes people believe they’re a solid tier-1 team, but these feelings can be compared to the so-called Mandela Effect. We remember Astralis as a championship team, but in fact, they’re not even contending for the world top anymore. The game shown by the Danes is hard to call interesting, both individually and tactically. They managed to beat BIG, MIBR, and SAW, but in matches against strong teams, they can’t show anything worthwhile.

When talking about The MongolZ, it feels like the guys are performing at 70% of their capabilities and only fully engage at critical moments. Nevertheless, they can engage, which is a good sign suggesting that we won’t see any “sleepwalking” in the playoffs. The Mongols shoot excellently, the captain shows fantastic individual form, and it’s time for the players to firmly establish themselves in playoff stages. PGL Cluj-Napoca initially looked like an ideal tournament for this team, which excludes the chance of meeting mastodons like Vitality, NAVI, or Team Spirit.

No matter what map the Danes choose, the Mongols have excellent Inferno and can always bring opponents to a shootout on Mirage. Here we have a confident 80-20 for The MongolZ.

Falcons vs Eternal Fire: The Closest Quarter-final

Falcons vs Eternal Fire: The Closest Quarter-final

There’s no doubt that both teams aren’t thrilled about the playoff pairs, making it most difficult to identify a clear favorite here. Despite both teams finishing the group stage with 3:1 statistics, none of the victories were convincing. Therefore, to determine the chances of victory, we’ll turn to conclusions made after the completion of five game days.

Falcons’ problem is quite obvious – the team is still trying to find chemistry and is in the formation stage. The main ace is NiKo, who proved that he’s considered one of the best and most consistent players of the last decade for a reason. Also, the team’s morale after making it to the stage might significantly improve, as they’ve stepped over the first barrier and felt some progress from their work.

The Turks, on the contrary, look very tired and openly talk about it in interviews. However, the team is excellently coordinated and has a large baggage of ready-made strategies, which might be enough to prove stronger than a recently assembled team. On paper, Eternal Fire definitely looks like favorites, but again, we look back at the IEM Katowice 2025 playoffs and their performances in the group stage, after which it’s hard to definitively bet on their victory.

Talking about map veto strength hardly makes any sense here, as we’re confident that the team in better mental state will win. Based on this factor, we predict a small advantage for Falcons at 55-45.

FaZe vs SAW: How Did the Portuguese Get Here?

FaZe vs SAW: How Did the Portuguese Get Here?

SAW is undoubtedly the main sensation of the tournament, as before the event started, the organization announced the departure of two players at once, making the Cluj-Napoca tournament literally the last dance for this roster. That’s exactly how their journey began, but after 0:2, the Portuguese seemed to drop a weight from their shoulders and played this championship without any pressure, earning extra prize money.

Getting past karrigan’s team in such a “chill” mode, especially on stage, definitely won’t happen, so FaZe can be congratulated on their semi-final spot in advance. Moreover, FaZe already look much better, and it’s no secret that this team always starts to reveal itself closer to playoffs. For ELiGE, playing on stage after a long break should also give additional impulse, thanks to which he’ll show a great performance.

Without further words – 95% for FaZe’s victory against 5% for SAW.

Semi-finals, Third Place Match, and Grand Final

Semi-finals, Third Place Match, and Grand Final

In our feeling, the tournament bracket has formed in such a way that The MongolZ can already guarantee themselves a place in the grand final, while in the lower part, everything is much more complicated. Objectively, three teams can immediately contend for victory in the tournament, but Falcons and Eternal Fire face a much more difficult path, which will make their potential confrontation with FaZe more exhausting. Consequently, regardless of how the third quarter-final ends, karrigan’s squad will be considered favorites in the second semi-final. The fate of third place is less obvious, but as we’ve already said, participants from the lower part of the bracket look much stronger, so we bet that EF or Falcons will become bronze medalists.

Team chances based on playoff bracket distribution:

  • The MongolZ  – 23.21%
  • FaZe Clan – 18.33%
  • Team Falcons – 15.86%
  • Eternal Fire – 14.66%
  • paiN Gaming – 12.66%
  • MOUZ – 6.96%
  • Astralis – 6.33%
  • SAW – 1.99%

Counter-Strike is not just a team game, but also a competition of individuals. In recent years, the world has been watching a duel between two greatest talents: Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut. After winning IEM Katowice 2025, the Frenchman equaled the Ukrainian in the number of MVP titles, thus renewing debates about who is stronger. Let’s figure out who is the greater player.

Career Overview

Career Overview

s1mple

Oleksandr Kostyliev began his journey in 2014 when he was just 16 years old. His first serious teams were HellRaisers and FlipSid3 Tactics. The real breakthrough came in 2016 when he joined Team Liquid, where he first showed his incredible potential on the international stage and reached his first Major final. In 2016, he became a player for Natus Vincere, where he acquired the greatness that makes people talk about him even after a couple of years without serious results on the pro scene.

ZywOo

Mathieu Herbaut started playing much later. His professional career began in 2017 in little-known French teams. In 2018, he joined Team Vitality, where he immediately became the main star and remains so to this day.

Team Achievements

Team Achievements

Now let’s look at the team trophies that both players managed to lift during their careers. It’s worth noting that both players won one Major each and also won at the most prestigious tournaments in Katowice and Cologne. Here we considered victories at tier-1 or tier-S tournaments.

s1mple with Natus Vincere (17 trophies):

  • ESL One New York 2016
  • DreamHack Open Winter 2017
  • StarSeries i-League Season 5
  • CS:GO Asia Championships 2018
  • ESL One Cologne 2018 (S-tier)
  • BLAST Pro Series: Copenhagen 2018
  • StarSeries i-League Season 7
  • IEM Katowice 2020 (S-tier)
  • BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020 (Online)

ZywOo with Team Vitality (14 trophies):

  • cs_summit 4
  • ECS Season 7 Finals

  • Gamers8 2023
  • BLAST Premier Fall 2023 Finals
  • BLAST Premier: World Final 2023
  • IEM Cologne 2024 (S-tier)
  • IEM Katowice 2025 (S-tier)

Both players made significant contributions to their teams’ success, demonstrating not only individual skill but also the ability to work in a team at the highest level. However, from a team achievements perspective, s1mple seems to be the more successful player. He also holds the unique title of Intel Grand Slam Season 3 winner, which only a few players can boast of, and currently, ZywOo is not among them.

Regarding the Online era during the pandemic, both players were at their peak form and won many tournaments, but let’s look at individual successes in terms of MVP titles, where ZywOo recently caught up with s1mple.

Individual Achievements

Individual Achievements

Here we’ll look at HLTV rankings by year-end and the number of MVP awards. To avoid repeating the team achievements list, in MVP statistics, we’ll indicate the total number and separately highlight the medals for best player earned online and when the team couldn’t win the tournament, but the player still received an individual award.

s1mple:

MVP Awards: 21 awards Notable runner-up MVPs:

  • StarSeries i-League Season 4 (2nd place)

  • 2020: 1st place
  • 2021: 2nd place
  • 2022: 2nd place
  • 2023: 1st place
  • 2024: 3rd place

Total: 6 rankings appearances

After ZywOo caught up with s1mple in MVP count, Oleksandr Kostyliev reminded that during the online era, he missed several awards because MVP titles weren’t given for RMR tournaments in the CIS region. By the way, in Europe, the Frenchman received only 2 such awards – DreamHack Open Fall 2020 and cs_summit 6 Europe.

“In other words, they thought the CIS scene was terrible, didn’t give MVPs. In the end, the CIS scene started winning, and then NAVI and Gambit were just fighting for first place. These MVPs that weren’t included for RMR… How many did ZywOo get? Three or four pieces. Yes, yes, that’s how it happens, guys” – Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev

This seems like a fair observation, but firstly, ZywOo only has 2 such RMR medals, and secondly, if we dive into history, NAVI struggled in RMR tournaments of those times and only won WePlay! Clutch Island and StarLadder CIS RMR 2021. By the way, for the second RMR win, Sasha received his award, so we can only confidently claim one missing MVP medal.

Head-to-Head Matches and Statistics

Head-to-Head Matches and Statistics

Let’s now look at head-to-head statistics to understand how players performed against each other.

Total matches NAVI vs Vitality (when both were in lineups): 23

  • NAVI wins: 14
  • Vitality wins: 9

After s1mple left NAVI, they only managed to beat Vitality once in 6 meetings.

There was also one show match in their rivalry history when the teams swapped snipers, and s1mple played for Vitality while ZywOo played for NAVI. Obviously, this isn’t indicative, but the Ukrainian sniper won that confrontation.

What CS Stars Say About Them

Richard “shox” Papillon: “ZywOo is a phenomenon. He plays so naturally, as if he was born with crosshair in his eyes.”

Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy: “When you have s1mple in your team, you feel like you can win any match.”

Janko “YNk” Paunović: “s1mple is pure aggression and confidence. ZywOo plays differently: smart, with cold calculation.”

Duncan “Thorin” Shields: “ZywOo is the purest talent I’ve seen in CS. s1mple is the most dominant player in history.”

ZywOo and s1mple - Present Day

ZywOo and s1mple - Present Day

The transition to CS2 affected both players negatively. The Frenchman took time to find his game but managed to win two major trophies, and after ropz joined, their team is now contending for their own era. Alexander went inactive and made two unsuccessful attempts to return to the pro scene, but reportedly still doesn’t plan to completely leave esports.

Whether s1mple will succeed is unknown, but his influence on the industry loses weight each year. If Sasha wants to cement his position as the best, he needs to act very quickly. ZywOo clearly isn’t planning to stop and will definitely earn extra MVPs and repeatedly take the highest places in HLTV rankings.

While their careers continue, the discussion will be eternal, but final conclusions will be made at the sunset of their professional path.

In our view, Sasha’s team achievements still give him a slight edge in this debate, but if he doesn’t return to top-level competition soon, by the end of 2025, he will undoubtedly let the Frenchman take the lead.

From February 14 to 23, Romania will host PGL’s first tournament in 2025. The tournament operator has previously organized multiple Counter-Strike Majors and has decided to hold several tournaments without this status while maintaining the familiar format with the Swiss system in the group stage and a single-elimination playoff bracket. The organizers have also decided to introduce a third-place match, which has never been done before and should make the final day more interesting in their opinion. Another innovation will be the BO3 format in the group stage, which should reduce the number of random results. We’ll see how everything works in a few days, but for now, let’s try to identify 8 teams that should secure 3 wins and make it to the stage in Cluj-Napoca.

3:0. Who will finish the group without losses?

3:0. Who will finish the group without losses?

The MongolZ

The bronze medalists of IEM Katowice 2025 are obvious contenders for playoff qualification and even tournament victory. After missing the first tier-1 event due to injury, the Mongols came to Katowice and showed they haven’t lost their form from last year. Their loss to Vitality was primarily due to strange map veto decisions, where they chose Mirage as their map against such experienced players. They have a very confident Anubis, where they became the world’s best team after defeating Eternal Fire. The team can also outshoot any opponent and thus can count on winning on any map, and the BO3 format will definitely play to their advantage. Recall that The MongolZ’s only trophy is YaLLa Compass 2024, and this tournament, like PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025, was skipped by most top teams. They won’t face pressure from big names and famous tags at this event, which should allow them to show their best CS.

Eternal Fire

After silver at BLAST Bounty Season 1, the Turkish team is unlikely to be satisfied with their quarterfinal exit at IEM Katowice 2025. The Turks should have learned their lessons and should handle teams below them in the world rankings without problems. There’s no doubt about their group stage qualification, but a tight tournament schedule might cause fatigue, and it’s possible that Eternal Fire might stumble and lose one game. However, all things being equal, they look more confident and stable than other teams, and should only progress from tournament to tournament. The guys really want to win their country’s first trophy, and considering that NAVI, Team Spirit, Vitality, and G2 won’t be coming to Romania – this goal becomes more realistic. Therefore, we expect the Turks to want to resolve the playoff qualification as quickly as possible and get more days to prepare for the decisive matches.

3:1. Should make it to playoffs.

3:1. Should make it to playoffs.

3DMAX

Looking at the guys’ recent results, faith in the once-legendary French Counter-Strike is returning. The famous tag further strengthens these feelings, and such tournaments are the best opportunity to make a statement and regain fan interest. 3DMAX gave Vitality an excellent fight at IEM Katowice, but after a fairly successful tournament, they still decided to make a replacement, switching Djoko for bodyy. Both players are quite experienced, and apparently, the organization realizes the importance of having an experienced player among young shooters. The guys play with incredible energy and are probably currently the “loudest” team on LAN. The recent replacement might give additional impulse, and the “honeymoon period” of the updated roster should happen right in Cluj-Napoca.

Virtus.pro

Another team that made a loud statement at the recent tier-1 event. They predictably lost in the playoffs as they were playing with a stand-in, but there should be no visa issues at this tournament. FL4MUS is a very important link in the team both in gaming and moral terms, so VP should be happy to return to playing with their full roster. This tournament will show whether the results in Katowice were random or if the guys are ready to fully return to the world top. Players should approach PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 with maximum focus and try to snatch victory in every confrontation. It’s also important for less experienced newcomers to reach playoff stages as often as possible to get used to the stage and games in large arenas.

FaZe Clan

Despite their failure in Katowice, FaZe looked quite good and offered serious resistance to the future champions. Looking at other top teams, their participation in PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 looks a bit unexpected, but this means the new lineup wants to develop chemistry with ELiGE as soon as possible. Many claim that karrigan and rain are finding it difficult to seek motivation and are close to retiring, but as we see, the guys aren’t even thinking about skipping events. This instills faith in this team, and considering their experienced roster, they are one of the tournament favorites who will naturally find themselves in the top 8.

3:2. Looks preferable to others

3:2. Looks preferable to others

Falcons

The dramatic elimination by G2 is unlikely to leave a trace on NiKo’s mental state, but winning games alone for Falcons is still difficult for him. Recently, the guys managed to lose a map to a team not even in the top 100 during IEM Dallas 2025 qualifications. Faith in zonic’s genius is also fading with each day, but still, a roster consisting of such players should make the playoffs, considering the names of future opponents. Obviously, the guys are under some pressure due to huge community expectations, but they need to gradually get rid of it and focus on results. Like for other teams – this tournament should be a great opportunity to play as many matches as possible and test in practice everything that’s being worked on during practice sessions.

BIG

A rather risky choice without absolute confidence, just like in the game of the German organization’s representatives. The experienced tabsen added a couple of young guys who managed to surprise at IEM Katowice 2025. The newly appointed sniper – hyped even became the best player of the Play-In stage with a 1.43 rating across 6 maps played. As a team, the guys also looked quite good and in head-to-head matches can certainly emerge victorious and crawl into playoffs.

MOUZ

Despite the complete failure in Katowice, we should still acknowledge that the team played with a stand-in from the academy roster. There isn’t strong faith in this lineup without their captain, but individually, the players should show results capable of bringing them three victories in the group stage. If the guys don’t pull themselves together, their confident run at tier-1 might end much faster than they expected. The tournament in Romania is a chance that this five must grab with all their might.

Conclusions

The fight in the lower part of the table will be extremely serious, and 4 more teams will contend for a playoff spot. Astralis, paiN, MIBR, and Wildcard will definitely get their chance, but lately they’ve been looking extremely unstable, which is why they didn’t make our top 8.

  • 3:0 – The MongolZ, Eternal Fire
  • 3:1 – 3DMAX, Virtus.pro, FaZe Clan
  • 3:2 – Falcons, BIG, MOUZ

From February 7-9, the legendary Spodek Arena will host the six best teams from the group stage, and only one of them will lift the trophy. Two teams have already secured their spots in the semifinals, while the others will begin their journey to the trophy from the quarterfinals. In this article, we’ll analyze each team’s form based on their performance in previous stages and predict their chances of winning the trophy.

Virtus.pro. Chance to win: 5%

Virtus.pro. Chance to win: 5%

VP’s new roster with electroNic as captain started their Katowice campaign with a completely lackluster loss against paiN, which didn’t come as a major surprise to many. However, the Bears then managed to show more than convincing gameplay and made it to the main stage. This roster has started playing more aggressively, and at first glance, this helps players fully unlock their potential rather than being constrained by previous strategies.

In the group stage, they had to face G2 and Eternal Fire, where they managed to secure victories and guarantee themselves second place in the group. Young players FL4MUS and ICY note that under Denis Sharipov’s leadership, they feel very comfortable playing and see him as both a wise mentor and an excellent player who reads the game well. The team atmosphere has indeed significantly improved, and even the loss against Vitality didn’t significantly mar the overall impression of this roster. However, when considering them as potential champions, it’s difficult to find objective arguments in VP’s favor. Firstly, they’re matched against Team Spirit, and secondly, due to visa issues, the team’s main emotional driver, FLAMUS, will have to miss the playoff stage. Rumors suggest mir will replace him, but we know that playing with a substitute is always much harder, not to mention the uncertainty about Nikolai’s game form.

In their match against Team Spirit, they have a chance to pick Train as their map and try to capitalize on the lack of practice on this map. However, believing in their victory in a full BO3 is extremely difficult.

The MongolZ. Chance to win: 11%

The MongolZ. Chance to win: 11%

Of all the top teams, the Mongols returned from vacation the latest due to Senzu’s broken arm. It’s worth noting that he arrived at the tournament in a cast, which certainly can’t help but affect his individual form. Despite confidently qualifying from the group in second place, their path to the playoffs seems the easiest of all six teams that made it to Spodek Arena. Victories over Team Liquid and GamerLegion don’t look particularly outstanding, especially since they couldn’t pass the real test against NAVI.

The Mongols have always surprised with their shooting prowess and won most matches because of it, but it’s unlikely they’ve managed to reach their proper competitive form in just three games. Their opponents have been playing competitive CS since mid-January and managed to attend a LAN in Copenhagen, while The MongolZ are just getting into the groove of 2025. On paper, their quarterfinal matchup against Eternal Fire could be considered equal, but the Turks currently look much more interesting and stronger.

Eternal Fire. Chance to win: 15%

Eternal Fire. Chance to win: 15%

Another playoff appearance for the Turkish team, which absolutely deserves the highest praise for their work. The targeted replacement of jottAAA with Calyx is already proving its worth and seems to have given a boost to absolutely every player on the team. After reaching the finals of BLAST Bounty Season 1, everyone expected them to easily defeat VP, but the Turks lost a couple of crucial rounds and ended up in the lower bracket. However, this gave them a chance to test their strength against 3DMAX and FaZe Clan, victories over whom earned them a ticket to Spodek Arena.

The team’s main stars, XANTARES and woxic, seem to have returned to their prime, and currently, few on the pro scene would want to engage in open firefights with them. The team also has an absolute trump card in Anubis, where they are the best team in the world. Eternal Fire doesn’t have a permanent ban and can compete on all 7 maps, so even their progression to the grand final wouldn’t be surprising. Considering all these positives, one might want to increase their chances of winning, but they start from the quarterfinals, which makes their path to the championship more difficult, and the remaining opponents are no less worthy contenders for the trophy.

Team Spirit. Chance to win: 19%

Team Spirit. Chance to win: 19%

The last quarterfinalist has better chances of winning the tournament than the other participants at this stage. The world’s best team dropped to the lower bracket after losing to NAVI and even unexpectedly experienced some problems in the decisive match against GamerLegion. The team’s players seem somewhat exhausted and tired from the dense tournament schedule, so their playoff results depend on whether they can rest during the couple of days break.

Obviously, you can never write off the world’s best team and the current champions of the last two major events. Danya “donk” can always carry a game single-handedly, so the Dragons remain real contenders for the championship. We had to remove a few percentage points due to their sudden slip-up against Virtus.pro, and a potential matchup with NAVI seems slightly unfavorable (about 55-45 against Team Spirit).

NAVI. Chance to win: 22%

NAVI. Chance to win: 22%

Blad3’s squad took first place in their group and secured a spot in the semifinals, which obviously increases their chances of winning, but it’s difficult to call them the main contenders for the title due to a possible rematch against Team Spirit.

NAVI looks good, but their match against Spirit in the group stage was a spectacle of errors from both sides. It’s impossible to say that either team looked significantly stronger; luck was simply on the side of CS2’s first Major winners in that match. Individually, jL stood out strongly, single-handedly winning many rounds for his teammates and carrying them to the semifinals. Playing on stage is no longer an advantage or weakness for any team, but the extra day of rest could help significantly, which is why their chances in the lower bracket are higher than the others.

Vitality. Chance to win: 28%

Vitality. Chance to win: 28%

Based on the playoff bracket layout and the team’s performance in the group stage, Vitality appears to be the main favorite in the tournament. The team’s newcomer, ropz, already looks more than organic in his new jersey and fits perfectly into the team’s chaotic style. Playing on intuition and reading opponents, gathering information and putting all the cards in their team’s hands – this is what apEX has been missing for a long time. ZywOo also looks inspired for new victories and is even trying to find something new, or rather return to forgotten old ways. The Frenchman has brought back the unusual viewmodel from the start of his career and seems hungry for wins again, like several years ago.

Their semifinal opponents are still lower in status, and their previous loss to Eternal Fire at BLAST Bounty Season 1 hasn’t changed this fact. Anything can happen in a BO5 grand final, but a 100% win rate on 4 maps over the last 3 months inspires faith in this team.

Final Distribution of Chances to Win IEM Katowice 2025

  • Vitality – 28%
  • NAVI – 22%
  • Team Spirit – 19%
  • Eternal Fire – 15%
  • The MongolZ – 11%
  • Virtus.pro – 5%

From January 23 to 26, eight teams will compete in Copenhagen for the title of champion in the first season of BLAST Bounty. The tournament adopts a rather experimental format. Let’s examine its features and highlight the favorites and underdogs of the LAN stage.

The "Bounty" Mechanic

The "Bounty" Mechanic

One of the tournament’s key features is the “Bounty” mechanic. Each team is assigned a “bounty” at the start, with the value depending on their ranking. The higher the team’s rank, the larger their bounty, making them a priority target for opponents. Teams earn half of their defeated opponent’s bounty, adding to their own.
The total prize pool is $500,000, distributed as follows:

  • 1st–8th place: $40,000
  • 9th–16th place: $26,250
  • 17th–32nd place: $7,500

The Top Contenders

The Top Contenders

Team Spirit

The reigning Major champions are clear favorites. Team Spirit dominated the online stage, showcasing confidence and skill. HLTV’s Best Player of 2024, Danil “donk” Kryshkovets, appears poised to retain his title. His outstanding performance in the match against FlyQuest, ending with a staggering 2.30 rating and conceding only four rounds across two maps, makes it hard to envision anyone stopping him. According to donk, the team is in top form and heading to Denmark focused solely on claiming another trophy.

NAVI

Blad3

While NAVI had a less dominant start to the season, particularly struggling against Imperial’s women’s team, their potential cannot be ignored. Close rounds and frequent clutch scenarios raised concerns, and the team’s AWPer, w0nderful, has been underwhelming, displaying inconsistent performance and emotional instability both in matches and on social media.

Despite these challenges, NAVI’s coach is renowned for his tactical preparation, and with ample time to strategize, the team could thrive in the short tournament format. For NAVI, proving their worth early in the season is crucial, and BLAST Bounty offers the perfect opportunity.

The Challengers

The Challengers

These teams always enter tournaments with the goal of claiming the trophy, and this time is no exception. However, recent roster changes leave them slightly behind the top competitors. Of course, any roster changes are often a step back to take two steps forward, but not enough time has passed for those “two steps” to materialize. Both Vitality and G2 showed decent performances with their new lineups, but visible issues remain, ones unlikely to be resolved in such a short time frame.

Vitality

Vitality, while a strong contender, finds itself slightly behind Spirit and NAVI due to recent roster changes. The addition of ropz has generated significant hype, but their near-comeback loss to Virtus.pro revealed growing pains, particularly on the T side. Captain apEX praised the newcomer, but the team’s struggles on maps like Train could be exploited by more polished teams like Spirit or NAVI.

G2

G2

Similarly, G2 is adjusting to roster changes, with malbsMd stepping into a star role. While his individual performance has been commendable, two map losses to weaker opponents raise concerns. On a positive note, G2 has gained valuable experience playing under pressure, which could accelerate the new lineup’s development.

The Dark Horses.

The Dark Horses.

Both Eternal Fire and paiN Gaming surprised many by making it to the top ranks despite roster changes. Eternal Fire took down the star-studded Falcons lineup, while paiN, bolstered by a Chilean newcomer, eliminated Shanghai Major finalists FaZe Clan.
These teams enter the tournament as underdogs, free from the pressure of high expectations. Their ability to choose favorable matchups and prepare meticulously could lead to a few upsets, but their championship prospects remain slim.

Teams Facing Challenges

Teams Facing Challenges

Visa issues have plagued the likes of HEROIC and BetBoom Team, forcing roster adjustments. HEROIC’s replacement of tN1R with maden is less disruptive compared to BetBoom, which lost its captain and AWPer. Newcomer BoombI4 made significant contributions to BetBoom, and his absence leaves the team scrambling to adapt roles and strategies. With such setbacks, these teams are unlikely to achieve more than a top-8 finish.

Final Prediction

Here’s how the odds stack up for the tournament:

  • Team Spirit: 24%
  • Vitality: 22%
  • Natus Vincere: 19%
  • G2 Esports: 14%
  • Eternal Fire: 8%
  • paiN Gaming: 6%
  • HEROIC: 5%
  • BetBoom Team: 2%

The semifinals are expected to feature a clash between Spirit and NAVI, with the Dragons likely to emerge victorious. In the lower bracket, Vitality appears stronger than G2, though their encounters are always intense, fueled by the m0NESY vs. ZywOo rivalry.
