Complete Review of the New CS2 Update: Which Skins to Invest in and How to Recoup the Arsenal Pass Cost

Developers released a major update for Counter-Strike 2 on April 1st, brightening up April Fools’ Day for the community. Many even needed some time to realize they weren’t victims of a prank after seeing the news on social media. Everyone also remembered trader xMercy’s bet, who promised to part with a sticker worth about $10,000 if VALVE didn’t release a major update by the end of March. According to American time, the release happened on March 31st, and surprisingly, the collector’s prediction came true at the very last moment. Let’s examine what VALVE has brought us and how to react to it.

Arsenal Expansion with an Abundance of Skins

First and foremost, the update affected the event that has been running since October 2024. In one of our recent investment articles, we wrote that “Arsenal” needed changes, and this prediction came true just a couple of weeks later. We assumed that VALVE would either completely update the collection or simply remove it from the game. The result was something in between, but we believe that the next step should be an update to the key chains, followed by replacement of the remaining collections. We also thought VALVE might introduce discounts on the pass, but the ticket still costs $15.99, and you can’t activate more than 5 at once.

Fever Case

Let’s start the review with the new container, which can be purchased for 2 stars, just like the Gallery case. In our opinion, the new case will be in high demand, and the main reason is the updated Shattered Web collection knives in Chroma finish. More specifically: Nomad, Skeleton, Paracord, and Survival knives received Doppler finishes (including Ruby, Sapphire, and Black Pearl gems), Marble Fade, Tiger Tooth, Damascus Steel, Rust Coat, and Ultraviolet. Already in the first day, people went hunting for rare Doppler phases, which many succeeded in finding. We’re sure interest in this case won’t fade for a long time, so they’ll be selling like hotcakes on the marketplace.

Besides knives, as a Covert weapon, we got the long-awaited AWP | Printstream, which became the fourth skin in the collection. Additionally, AK-47 | Searing Rage, Glock-18 | Shinobu, and FAMAS | Bad Trip also deserve special attention and will definitely be popular, at least initially. However, these items also left us somewhat disappointed, as they strongly resemble existing AK-47 | Wasteland Rebel, Glock-18 | Vogue, and the Hyper Beast collection. Perhaps the designers were following the template of the famous “No, I upgrade” meme, but we don’t appreciate that approach.

Train 2025 Collection and Limited XM1014

While a new limited item in the Arsenal was quite expected, the appearance of the updated Train collection was a big surprise. After all, the game already has skins from Train 2021 that never made it into a souvenir container from a Major. Returning to the novelties, it’s worth noting that they were much less impressive than the contents of the Fever case. The XM1014 design turned out to be original due to its dynamic pattern, but it’s a skin for a shotgun, which few people are interested in. And Train 2025 can only boast a couple of interesting skins.

We were most impressed by MP9 | Latte Rush and M4A4 | Hellish, but Glock-18 | Green Line and UMP-45 | Late Night Transit deserve special attention. First, the author of these items had a total of 4 skins accepted in this update, and second, the Glock-18 was initially in the workshop as a skin for the Overpass collection. The designer was playing with the passing train car on B-plant and called the pistol Glock-18 | Metro. Subsequently, the author simply repainted it green, and the pistol was added to the Train 2025 collection.

Weekly Rewards Update

The next important element of the update was the appearance of three new collections that drop for free each week after leveling up. Ascent, Boreal, and Radiant replaced the Bank, Italy, Lake, and original Train collections. For free drops, the new skins turned out to be extremely attractive and, we’re sure, pleased the majority of users.

The Ascent collection impressed with its blue-purple hues, where AK-47 | Midnight Laminate, M4A1-S | Stratosphere, and USP-S | Royal Guard will become true hits.

Boreal has a floral vibe and somewhat resembles the extremely expensive St. Marc collection. Here it’s worth paying attention to AWP | Green Energy, Glock-18 | Glockingbird, and USP-S | Tropical Breeze, which are perfect for green inventories.

Radiant attracted attention with AK-47 | Nouveau Rouge, Desert Eagle | Mulberry, M4A1-S | Glitched Paint, and Glock-18 | Coral Bloom, which will be in huge demand, and lucky ones will hardly want to part with these skins cheaply.

The Main Question - How Much Will These Skins Cost?

The new items can already be obtained and, interestingly, they aren’t subject to the sales block and are already available on the Steam marketplace. However, prices for rare items, as expected, are very high and definitely don’t reflect the real picture. The same extremely attractive Glock-18 | Coral Bloom received a Mil-Spec quality and in Factory New condition already costs less than $5. We’re sure prices for all collection items will decrease with each month and only serve a cosmetic function in the game. Therefore, we advise getting rid of these skins as early as possible if you get them in drops – after some time, you’ll be able to buy them much cheaper.

Which Items Should You Invest in After the Operation?

Moving on to investments. What to buy? We’re betting on the collections removed from the weekly drop: Bank, Italy, Lake, and the original Train set. Yes, there are currently huge quantities of them, but the big advantage of these collections is the presence of only one item of the highest quality, which is extremely convenient for crafting. Pay special attention to Bank, where the only top-quality skin – P250 | Franklin – is Classified, and its younger brother AK-47 | Emerald Pinstripe is perfect as a “filler” skin when crafting AK-47 | Case Hardened.

If you want to quickly recoup the operation cost, we recommend spending all stars on the Fever case and immediately selling it on the marketplace. For 40 coins, you can buy 20 cases, and there’s almost no doubt that from selling each case, you can make at least $1 in pure profit.

We also want to remind you about the Train 2021 collection, which has been limited for a long time, but now it can’t receive souvenir analogues. Hits like Glock-18 Gamma Doppler and USP-S | Whiteout won’t be available in any alternative versions, which automatically makes them rarer. Of course, they already cost far from cheap, but prices will only continue to rise.

The last prediction involves larger investments and is related to knives that received expensive finishes like Doppler in the Fever case. Now, pro players and various streamers will want to get something new and expensive, which means that Nomad and Skeleton will appear more often in the hands of many players’ idols. This will increase demand even for cheaper finishes of these knives, as happened with Stiletto, which was long uninteresting to anyone and called a “toothpick,” but then received a huge boost when it started appearing in matches on the pro scene.

Conclusion

VALVE has again achieved their goal and once again attracted players to games on official servers. But for how long? For example, you simply can’t get into the Casual 10v10 mode right now, as playing it has turned into pure star farming, where a round lasts no more than 10 seconds. Problems with cheaters haven’t been solved, and playing MM or Premier is truly uncomfortable.

In our opinion, we’ll see a repeat of fall 2024, when all the hype completely died down after just a month. The developers should focus on more global updates such as working on anti-cheat, adding new modes (Danger Zone), or operations with missions.

VALVE hasn’t treated us to new content in a while, so it’s the perfect time to dive into the Workshop and check out some amazing creations that developers might add to a new case or collection. One of the major traders, xMercy, even made a bet with the community on a holographic HellRaisers sticker from Katowice 2014, currently valued at $10,000. The collector is convinced that by the end of March, we’ll see a major update featuring new skins. That’s a serious wager, but let’s get back to our topic! Let’s take a look at some creative works from skin makers that not only look great but also feature original ideas executed with high quality.

Glock | Energized

This Glock skin immediately grabs attention with its unique effect. Imagine the metal of the pistol being scorched and tempered, leaving fire marks and darkened areas – it looks incredibly stylish. The creator was inspired by a rainy atmosphere, which is currently only present on one official matchmaking map. But honestly, seeing how cool it looks under raindrops makes you wish there were more such maps! Even on other locations, this Glock retains its charm. The author promises that this isn’t their last work in this style, new ideas are already in progress, and we can’t wait to see if one of them catches VALVE’s eye.

FAMAS | Pondlife

This is the second collaborative project by Taxipfahrer and Misfit, and they’ve really outdone themselves. This FAMAS skin looks extremely attractive. When you hold it, a small frog face appears on the barrel, seemingly winking at you. And if you take a closer look, the perspective of the drawing is so perfectly aligned that it almost looks alive. A cool feature: the higher the wear, the more the background fades, but key design elements – the frog and various details, remain almost untouched. Even a battle-worn version of this skin looks better than most others. Hopefully, the authors had as much fun creating it as we did admire it!

AK-47 | Go Bananas!

This AK-47 is a true gem for those who love bright and unconventional designs. The creator was inspired by banana trees in their backyard and decided to turn the rifle’s magazine into a giant banana. While the game already has a few tropical fruit-themed items, this one is much more vibrant. The designer even added a sticker referencing the logo of the famous banana brand Chiquita a small touch that makes the skin even cooler. This hyperrealistic design is bound to be a hit with the community.

USP-S | ToothDecay

This USP-S skin isn’t just a cool-looking pistol, it tells a whole story! The creator is a dentist by profession and spends every day caring for his clients’ teeth while emphasizing the importance of oral hygiene. So, he decided to use his favorite game to remind everyone about dental care. The name “Tooth Decay” sounds like a warning, and the design creatively reflects this theme. As the skin’s quality worsens, cavities and cracks appear on the teeth until they eventually vanish entirely, an incredibly creative implementation. It’s possible that the “Battle-Scarred” version could even be more expensive than “Factory New.” It’s great when a skin has not just an original idea, but also an interesting backstory.

Sawed-Off | F.A.E

This Sawed-Off skin looks like an artifact from a fantasy world. The creator was inspired by mythical beings like elves and fairies, imagining what their weapons and armor might look like. The result is “Executioner” – a powerful name for a powerful shotgun. The idea is that the weapon is charged with ancient energy: if it falls into the hands of a worthy owner, the runes on the body will start glowing, and accuracy will noticeably increase. Of course, implementing this in gameplay isn’t possible, but visually bringing it to life is quite realistic thanks to the new Source 2 engine.

AK-47 | CARTOON

This AK-47 embodies the trend of giving real objects a cartoonish style. The creator clearly knows the aesthetic and has perfectly applied crisp lines, making the rifle look like it jumped straight out of a comic book. The design is inspired by the popular technique of stylizing real items into a cartoonish look. Bold black outlines and a flat graphic effect make it resemble a weapon from comics or animation. This rifle will fit perfectly into the collection of those who love unique skins.

Dual Berettas | Handgun

The creator continues the idea from their previous project, P2000 | Handgun, but now with two pistols. They feature hands not just any hands, but specifically those of Agent Darryl in his “Miami” version, with recognizable pink-and-blue sleeves and a gold watch. A cool detail: one side of the weapon shows a palm, while the other displays the back of the hand. According to Bloomberg, since the beginning of 2024, the value of digital items in CS2 has grown faster than the S&P 500 index, Bitcoin, and Ethereum. Recently, a new record was set – the total trading volume of skins reached $4.3 billion. If you’ve been following items on the marketplace for a long time, it’s not difficult to notice that they have been steadily growing in price not only this year but throughout the game’s history. This is especially noticed by people who return to their abandoned accounts after some time, check their inventory, and are surprised that some items are significantly more expensive than they remembered. The main price jump occurred during the transition to CS2, when all skins were transferred to the new version of the game, which marked a new chapter in the shooter’s history that will exist for a long time. There were also specific cases where some items began to look much more interesting with the transition to the improved Source 2 engine.

Currently, there are many different items in the in-game store, so we decided to reflect on their future value. Let’s try to think through several scenarios, based on the current situation and experience from past events.

Arsenal Operation Items

There are currently 66 new weapon finishes from the Arsenal update in the game. Three collections: Overpass 2024, “The Graphic Design Collection”, “The Sport & Field Collection” as well as the “Gallery Case.” While items from past collections showed serious growth some time after their completion, the current situation here is quite ambiguous.

First, VALVE does not reveal to us even approximate dates for the end of the event, which makes any forecasts merely hypothetical. Second, unlike past operations, this event has a modified item acquisition mechanic. Now you cannot purchase “stars” for real money, and developers, in addition to purchasing a pass, force you to play to earn in-game currency. At first, this worked well, but after almost half a year, audience interest has waned, and players have returned to FACEIT and other third-party servers. For this reason, far fewer items have been appearing in the game, and they are practically not dropping in price. So what will happen to them next?

Why the collection should increase in value:

Items still won’t appear in large quantities due to the lost interest of players. This means their already limited circulation will not change.
To bring back active users, developers will release new collections within the current Arsenal event, while the current ones will become limited.
Any other sudden termination of the event or closure of access to the collection.

What might prevent Arsenal event items from growing in value:

The implementation of a substantial discount on the pass, more specifically – how long this discount will be in effect and whether it will be able to restore player demand.
Infinite duration of the event. There are rumors that this is quite a realistic outcome.

Charms

Moving on to the newest type of items in the game. The community had been waiting for the appearance of charms for a very long time, but the reaction to the presented models was ambiguous. This item left no one indifferent, and made players either fall in love with or categorically reject the new accessory.

As for future prices, over time our vision has changed somewhat. Initially, it seemed that the ability to apply and remove a charm at any moment would completely kill all hopes for growth, but time has shown that their prices have not changed. At the moment, this can be attributed to the general trend of all skins from the Arsenal update, but we have a couple of additional arguments for why charms might become more expensive in the future:

Analogy with agents. They also cannot be used in crafts or somehow disappear from the game, which did not prevent them from significantly increasing in price. Although skeptics will say that a significant percentage of growth is associated with the general boost of all items after the transition to CS2.
The presence of rare patterns. It would seem that the collection is transparent, but almost every charm has at least four varieties that differ in color or other pattern change parameter. It turns out that there are even fewer items of a specific “type” than shown on the marketplace.

Stickers

Here everything is quite simple, and you can be guided by the experience of past stickers from operations. When a sticker is applied, it cannot be removed, so after each application, they rapidly disappear from the marketplace. Given the actively developing fashion for sticker crafts, demand for them is unlikely to disappear anytime soon. It is especially impossible to ignore the number of ideas implemented with stickers from the Arsenal collections, which makes their potential scarcity almost inevitable.

First of all, we’re talking about items from the latest operations: Riptide and Broken Fang cases, as well as collections: Train 2021, Mirage 2021, Dust 2 2021, Vertigo 2021, Ancient, Chaos, and Control. You can also pay attention to items from even older operations, but the main take should revolve around the fact that items have been removed from active drop. Thus, after numerous crafts, items from the collection will disappear, accordingly becoming more rare. The cost of such skins will definitely not decrease in any way, with the exception of potential risks that will affect absolutely the entire market.
